And Done!

I learned how to french braid! I haven't really felt like a mom for the past 3 1/2 years because I didn't know how to french braid my darling daughter's hair.

I finally learned. You don't want to know how the first attempts went. You could barely call them french braids. Those do's resembled more of a finger in a light socket idea with a hint of braiding.

Yesterday morning I sat the girl on the counter, told her to sit still (that lasted about 32 seconds), and patiently (you have no idea how I do not posses that particular virtue) french braided her hair.

It took about 20 minutes. Leah was not happy about it and kept insisting that Lisa (my highly hair-talented sister) do it. But I'm pleased with the outcome. I did have to keep telling myself that I didn't need it done in 1 1/2 minutes. I also kept reminding myself to add hair at the appropriate time to the appropriate pieces. And most importantly, I told my self over and over that THE FRENCH BRAID WILL NOT DEFEAT ME!

And it didn't.

Now I just need to learn how to hide the rest of the tail of the braid so I can have an appropriately Lauren Conrad look. Of course I'd also need Leah to grown about 3 more pounds of hair.

I can officially conquer the world.

Melanie, that looks amazing! Good for you! Or you can just do what I did--wait for oldest daughter to grow up so she can fix her little sister's hair. I am now out of a job because Alyssa does it better than me!

I love it! It is so cute! I know how to french braid but I am not sure if I ever would have thought to put it at the front like that. Very cute!

When I was 10 I had this "tool" that you put on your head and it taught you to french braid your own hair. It didn't work too well. I got the basics of how to do it but I still couldn't do it very well. I think that was the last time I even did a french braid. Good thing I don't have girls. (Although I did put Ashton's hair in pig tails the other day!)

I am french-braid incompetent. You've given me new hope, Melanie. I'm going to sit my girls down and try again today--it is a snow day after all!
