As Of Late

Well, this last Sunday marked a big day for us, our names were read as new members of the West Jordan 43rd Ward. Along with that I was sustained to my new calling (in Young Womens, woo hoo!) and we spoke in Sacrament Meeting. The 1st counselor in the bishopric wondered, before he introduced me, how it must feel to stand for our names to be read, stand for the sustaining of the new calling, and then stand to give a talk. I felt intimidated. Matt was sitting in the congregation with Leah, so it was just me up there standing all alone; and I thought it would be a great idea to wear my tall boots (as it was snowing). You tell me how you would feel standing close to a shorter man wearing 4 inch heels on the stand. I felt about 15 feet tall, it was sort of ridiculous.

Also, Leah went to nursery that day. Woo hoo, again! We had been prepping her all week about nursery and how she was going to play with the other kids. I figured out in our last ward that if we started talking to her about it while we were getting ready for church, it helped lessen the tears. We also started telling her that she needed to be tough and try not to cry when she went into nursery. This is usually how it goes:
Me: "Hey! You're going to go to nursery today. What are you going to do?"
Leah: "Yeah, and play with the kids."
Me: "Oh, that will be so fun. And you're going to be tough and not cry, right?"
Leah: "No crying. Be tough, be tough, be tough."
It's quite sweet that she wants to go to nursery and be happy, but her tears still get the best of her. Luckily this week, the nursery decided to split in half and there were only 3 other kids in with her (as opposed to the 17 two weeks ago). Matt dropped her off, telling her to be tough, and we didn't hear from her again. The leader mentioned that she cried for a while, but calmed down pretty quickly and even started to talk and sing songs near the end. When I picked her up she was happy and excited. It was a lovely sight. I was really concerned that we would have to go through 4 months of the Cry It Out thing like we had to in our last ward. Bottom line: I think we made some excellent progess in nursery.

Having been sustained earlier in the morning to my new calling, I attended Young Womens for the first time in 6 years. We have about 20-ish Young Women in the ward, 15 of which come regularly. This last Sunday was fun as I got to sit through the lesson with the girls; the topic was DATING. Awesome, right? Our teacher was a bit late in getting there so I had the chance to sort of spear head things and start to get to know some of the girls. I'm over the Mia Maids, although we were combined with the Laurels that day as well. I have to say, I am really impressed with these girls. These girls are all shapes and sizes with different personalities ranging from the ULTRA ULTRA shy to the outgoing and confident. All of the girls talked to each other and NOT A SINGLE CELL PHONE WAS SEEN the entire length of the meeting. I have the biggest group of girls, about 7 Mia Maids, and I'm really excited to go to my first activity tonight and get to know them a little bit better. It's a Get-To-Know-The-Presidency thing and were making nachos (Matt is so jealous).

Things are plugging along with the house. I unpacked one more bedroom this last week. I don't like this stage of unpacking. We've gotten out and placed everything we need and usually use, it's this weird-o storage stuff that I don't know what to do with. I know I need to organize it, but I feel NO motivation to do it. We also finished painting one more room (2 down, 3 to go) once we're done with the main level painting we can start thinking about bedroom and bathroom paint colors. We also ordered 4 sets of blinds for our family room and are hoping they'll be here in about 1 week. Matt and I continue to be excited about owning a home, but are realizing just how much work they can be. I guess we're just used to living in 1100 sq. ft. of maintained apartment space. Oh, that reminds me... I need to buy a lawn mower... that's what I'll be researching now

Ah, the lawnmower...brings back fun memories of when our crotchety grumpy old neighbor used to come over to remind us of the Kirkwood City ordinance that doesn't allow for lawns to be longer than 6". And I would always reply, "yeah, we can't afford one jsut yet...we'd love to mow it if someone had one we could borrow..." We did eventually get one, and now we're on much better terms. :)

That's exciting you get to be with the YW! I think that would be a fun calling.

We still need a lawn mower too! We keep borrowing Chris' sisters. Don't worry about unpacking the "weird" stuff, we still have stuff in bins that we don't know what to do with.

Y.W. is my dream calling! I get pretty close to it teaching the 14/15 Sunday School cause usually only girls show up. Funny about the cell phones, this week in SS one of the boys did come and that was my one request, put it away and told him it was rude not to (we are cool like that ;) I was thinking how much fun it would be to just start painting but you made a good reality check for me, fun for the first room, not so much after that!

Oh, the story about Leah melts my heart. "Be tough, be tough..."

I say borrow a mower for your single fall mowing and save that purchase for the spring--unless there's some great end of season lawnmower clearance sale going on somewhere. Our neighbors did that to us when they moved in and we didn't think it was weird. Plus, there's always early spring sales on yard stuff.

who is that other kat'y'? I thought I was a one and only... sorry kat'y', if you are reading, I just rarely come across another one of me and I pride myself in never having to include my last name because everyone knows I am the katy with a Y.
Anywho... I have been in RS for the last 5 years. I love it, but I am starting to feel a bit envious of YW callings. I think I would really love it. I am glad you are there because when I am, someday, I can get tips on how not to be weird and old to them.
Leah is so fun... Lucy is just getting used to it too.
uhh... painting does not sound appealing... the idea does, but the actual 'doing' sounds super laborious.

good luck.

I HATE speaking in church! I am in the young women's presidency in our ward and we had to speak 2 months ago. Not fun! So,how do you like your new house?

Hey so if you guys want to do forgotten carols together we need to hurry and decide a date a buy tickets. I just looked online and they are going fast. So let me know when you can go and we will get it all taken care of. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays will work best for us cause then David can just take that day off so we don't have to stress about time.
