Happy Hallow-mas!

"Mom, why are there Christmas AND Halloween things in the store?"

That's it stores AND consumers! You've successfully confused my daughter as to which holiday and season we are in. Leah thinks it's normal to sing Jingle Bells while out Trick-or-Treating.

I was annoyed last year when Christmas decorations were being sold on November 1. I was almost angry when I saw them in the store two full weeks before Halloween. TWO WEEKS! A logical holiday cram would be Hallow-giving (creepy sounding as it is) or Thanks-mas (too much 's' sound for me), but Halloween and Christmas together does not sit well with me. Sure, lets have gross zombie masks next to delicate snowflake decorations and beautiful light displays, why not? Does anyone even know that it's still Autumn? Winter doesn't, technically happen until December 22. With all the griping that surrounds the winter weather, you'd think we'd put it off a little longer.

I swear, I'm not a Grinch. I love Christmas and everything that goes along with it. I just think there is a time and a season for it. My daughter, thanks to all this, has been telling me what she wants for Christmas since mid October. It's really taking a toll on my resolve not to threaten this year with statements like, "I hope Santa doesn't see you acting this way."

Just relax people, the season will come. It does every year, I promise.

I'm guilty of listening to Christmas music through most of November. I just feel happy listening to it. But I agree that having the stores full of Christmas stuff before Halloween is crazy. At least wait until Nov. 1st but they never do.

Kaleb made his official Santa list on Sunday and already wants to mail it. The good thing about kids getting anxious is that whenever they ask for something at the store I tell them no, that Christmas is coming soon so they can put it on their list. Sad, but it's an easy excuse to avoid tantrums for me.

Melanie--I know!! It's so ridiculous. And can we talk about how Black Friday starts earlier and earlier every year? Maybe if we just get take-out for Thanksgiving we can hit the stores sooner--doesn't that sound fun?
