Heard in our Home

Last night...
Leah was supposed to be sleeping when I heard this, "...sometimes I just forget to ask for things like beans or raisins or cupcakes; right now, all I really need is water. Mom, I'm counting on you. I need some water please..." Meanwhile, I'm laughing as quietly as possible (I thought I was quiet) right outside her closed door. Then I hear, "Mom, I can hear you laughing."

Today...
Leah had an Observation Day for her non-performing dance class (details to follow in another post). This morning I'd told Leah she'd get a surprise if she did everything she was asked to do during her Observation Day. After her sort-of-recital, we took her to lunch at a place of her choosing (McDonald's, of course) and I told her that was her surprise. She was happy enough. On the way home from said lunch date Leah said, "Mom, you forgot to give me a surprise. I followed all of Miss Kris' instructions!"

Me, "You did a great job! Lunch at McDonald's was your surprise."

Leah, "That wasn't a surprise, I knew we'd do that." Even though I hadn't told her.

Me, "Well, that was your surprise."

Leah, mumbling, "I think I want a different surprise."

Also today...
We just found out today that a family member is having another girl. When I told Leah the news I slipped into adult speak and said, "Lucy's mom, Katy, is pregnant with a girl!" After defining that pregnant is when a mommy has a baby in her tummy Leah went into peals of girlish excitement, "Oh another girl! Now Lucy will have two sisters, she is SOOOOOOOO lucky... etc, etc...".

Here's the thing though, since I said the word, "pregnant" Leah hasn't stopped saying it. I don't think it's a bad word, it's just not a word I ever thought I'd hear out of a four year-old's mouth. Can you imagine? It's just odd.

For the record: I've tried my hardest to get a picture of Parker doing the A-frame thing. I have yet to capture it. I'll keep working on it, but he is fast giving up on the A-frame in realization that a more traditional crawl is so much easier and more effective.
