On The Hunt

I'm on the hunt for a good bottle.

But I don't know which to buy...

I've looked into Dr. Brown's, but they have too many parts. -Blech-

I've looked at Avent. -$$$-

I've looked at Born Free.

I'm a bottle feeding mama. I used to say, "I won't rule out breast-feeding with the next one." But really, who am I kidding? I know myself well enough to know that bottle is the only way to go for our family. That being said. I need some good bottles because I will be using them exclusively.

CRITERIA: Bottle must be: of course, BPA free (no brainer, right?), as leak free as possible, easy to clean, not glass, no inlays (plastic liners are too much of a hassle), I'd like it to be as colic/non-bubble friendly as possible.

Anyone out there had any really great experiences with a certain type of bottle?

Gerber! They are the only bottle that Conner will take and they are $2.99 for a 3 pack! We tried the Playtex VentAire bottles but the holes are too big and Conner can't keep up with the flow. The poor kid drowns drinking out of them.

I loved the Playtex VentAire bottles, but like she said above, you have to get the slow nipples or it comes out too fast. But I had great success as long as we used the slow nipple.

Hmmm...my comment isn't showing up so if this shows up twice sorry!

I liked the Playtex VentAire bottles with both boys. We tried the wide-mouthed Gerber bottles with Ashton (cheaper, less parts) but there were lots of bubbles and lots of spitting up. When we switched him to Playtex it was night and day. (Ditto to the slow nipple comment.)

We used Avent with Logan and really liked them.

I have no good bottle info for you, except for an article I just read claiming that all the hype about BPA is really nothing to worry about--the risks are so small and the problems extremely rare. Apparently all the tubing that hospitals use in NICUs and ICUs contain BPA and they don't believe it's a health risk. Just thought I'd share that opinion if it makes your decision any less stressful.

We went with the Dr. Brown's almost exclusively. Marshall was a projectile spitter-upper, so anything that helped reduced that was a bonus.

Yes, they have lots of parts, but after trying other bottles they were definitely the best choice. We bought the plastic-y ones and they took a beating. You can also buy the different sizes of nipple depending on what feeding stage baby is at and what flow speed is needed, which was helpful. We started with preemie and went through the whole spectrum, only buying new nipples as needed.

Good luck! Lots of choices out there :)

The best bottle?? Well, I like the pre-filled ones that are ready to go when ever baby is (and a random other times...)

Okay really, I have no advice to offer, but if you need some 2 oz. medela bottles (the kind they give you in the hospital to store extra liquit gold) I've got LOTS. Just so you know where to get those...should you need them. *sheepish grin*

I know the Dr. Brown's have lots of parts, but they are well worth it! I have used those with both the boys and they have been great. No colic, no excessive spit up, no problems. I have a bunch that you can borrow and try out if you don't want to spend the money on them before you know if you like them. Just let me know.
