Baby Lines

Leah's best baby line to date:
Leah and I were getting some baby things out of their boxes this afternoon. She and I decided to set up the baby monitors. They're new and I wanted to make sure they were working. Of course, in a neighborhood you are likely to get someone else's 'broadcast' if they have their monitor on as well.

Upon turning on one of the units, there it was! Our neighbors coming in crystal clear. In the couple minutes that my curiosity got the better of me, we listened to what was going on. Nothing. During this time their baby, who is about 9 months old (assuming I'm correctly identifying the prey of my eavesdropping) was mostly babbling, which turned into whining, which turned into some good and loud crying.

Leah: "She's crying, huh."
Me: "Yes, just a little though."
Leah: "Ugh, I wish she would stop. Do you think that baby can do me a favorite (she really means favor) and stop crying?"
Me: -Starting to get a little worried about what she thinks of crying babies- "You know, sometimes babies cry. Sometimes they cry a lot."
Leah: "Well, can't we just feed him or change his diaper?"
-Notice that she switched the pronoun on me? She clearly knows I'm talking about Brother.-
Me: "Sometimes that doesn't work."
Leah: "Oh well, that's fine. Baby Brother Buddy can cry whenever he wants -pause- in his room -pause- alone. I probably won't want to hear it."
-She lays her head on my tummy and smiles proudly at what is clearly the best solution ever.-

I wish it were that easy.

I think Zach feels the same way. He frequently plugs his ears when babies are crying. This should be very interesting for both of us.
