How You Know It's Time To Mop Your Floor

1. Well, your floors are dark, dark, dark, dark brown (beautiful really, but sort of a pain in the cleaning department) and are always showing something on them.

2. You can see footprints on said floor from not only your own family's shoes, but visitors that came at least 2 weeks ago.

3. On that note: it's been at least 4 weeks since you last mopped.

AND LASTLY! You go to sweep up the flour that has been pushed on the floor from your earlier cookie/doughnut (more on that later) making venture and the flour ends up really gray, not white. Yummy.

And Done!

I learned how to french braid! I haven't really felt like a mom for the past 3 1/2 years because I didn't know how to french braid my darling daughter's hair.

I finally learned. You don't want to know how the first attempts went. You could barely call them french braids. Those do's resembled more of a finger in a light socket idea with a hint of braiding.

Yesterday morning I sat the girl on the counter, told her to sit still (that lasted about 32 seconds), and patiently (you have no idea how I do not posses that particular virtue) french braided her hair.

It took about 20 minutes. Leah was not happy about it and kept insisting that Lisa (my highly hair-talented sister) do it. But I'm pleased with the outcome. I did have to keep telling myself that I didn't need it done in 1 1/2 minutes. I also kept reminding myself to add hair at the appropriate time to the appropriate pieces. And most importantly, I told my self over and over that THE FRENCH BRAID WILL NOT DEFEAT ME!

And it didn't.

Now I just need to learn how to hide the rest of the tail of the braid so I can have an appropriately Lauren Conrad look. Of course I'd also need Leah to grown about 3 more pounds of hair.

I can officially conquer the world.

Her Excitement

Leah is so into Christmas this year. She's looking forward to Santa, she's glad that we get to celebrate Jesus' Birthday, she sings Christmas songs all day (requesting 12 Days of Christmas the most) she's ridiculously happy to turn on the Christmas lights each evening, and all she wants for Christmas is the white My Little Pony, Sweetie Belle (cost $6).

I love this!

I love remembering the purity that surrounds this season. I love remembering anticipating Christmas Day so much I almost couldn't bear it. I love remembering seeing those hoof prints on our sidewalk. I love remembering the half eaten cookies and carrots. I love remembering each and every present being opened by myself and each and every one of my siblings. I love remembering the special attention that I got when it was my turn to open a present. I love remembering spritz cookies, candy cane cookies, shrimp and scallops, and Christmas Eve presents.

I love remembering being in on "The Secret".

I love helping to spread the excitement of "The Secret", I love knowing that this season IS very special, I love getting excited for Leah, I love the gratitude and the service, I love the sparkle in her eyes when she talk about it all, I love the tears that well up thinking about the magic of all of this for her, I love passing on our traditions, I love the anticipation.

I love my Savior and the atmosphere that this season creates, all because of Him.

This is all brought to the forefront of my mind because of Her Excitement.
