Why is it that the hardest meal of the day is lunch? I can never figure out what to eat. Nothing sounds good, nothing sounds easy enough, and nothing just makes itself. So, of course, by the time I do figure something out, I'm too busy or too lazy to actually make it. Sometimes I feel it's too late to eat anything, after all I still want to be hungry for dinner. It seems that of all the meals I can skip, lunch is the easiest to skip. Ironically, it is also the one that if skipped makes me the most grizzly for the remainder of the day.
When I haven't had lunch, I rarely have the energy to do anything worthwhile in those awful hours of the day. You know the time: Kid is up from nap, blood sugar is low (even if you have eaten lunch), Dad isn't home yet, Kid is tired of looking at your face. Nothing good comes from the time between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. So on top of low energy and low morale, now I don't feel like making dinner. Oh, of course I want dinner. I just don't want to make it. Now, all of the sudden Dad is home, dinner hasn't even been thought about, you and Kid are up in arms, and the house is probably a mess. All because of low energy that comes from not eating lunch.
Well, you would think that since I've obviously had so much time to think about this that I'd eat lunch, right? Well, 60% of my days are still lunch-less. Better than the 90% they used to be though. We are eating out A LOT LESS than we used to. But still, lunch... sigh...
It's 2:18 and I still haven't eaten lunch. What to eat, what to eat, what to eat...
(Have you ever noticed that if you make up a word like lunchless, the spell checker catches it? But when you insert a hyphen, lunch-less, all of the sudden it's approved. I love inventing words.)
3:00 UPDATE: I DECIDED ON A GIGANTIC PIECE OF KEYLIME PIE- AND WATER.

Our Independence Day Weekend
Over the 4th of July weekend our family was able to attend a Lowe Family Reunion. Of the 108 descendants of my grandma and grandpa Lowe, 90 were in attendance. Families came from all over the country and it was a blast. It was really neat to see and get to know a lot of my cousins that I used to think were so much older than me. Most of us have kids about the same age now and it really is great to get to know them on more of a peer level.
The morning some of the younger children families went to Tracy Aviary. Just as a note: 4th of July + Tracy Aviary + Great Weather (including but not limited to slightly overcast skies and low 80 degree temperatures) = Best Children's Activity Day Ever! The park was practically empty and it wasn't even hot. We took our time, fed some ducks, chased and ran away from some peacocks, and overall had a wonderful time.
Later that afternoon the entire family gathered for the first time. We played at a park and had some delicious dinner and of course homemade ice cream and peaches and homemade root beer. For those of you who think homemade root beer is best from the dry ice recipe, you're totally wrong. You've got to have homemade root beer Lowe Style. Although it is, for some, an acquired taste. Later we attended the Riverton City fireworks.
This panoramic mishap is of the entire Lowe Family that gathered for Family Home Evening on Sunday evening. I think I'm only missing about two handfuls of people from these pictures.
The last day was spent up at the campgrounds at the Spruces. There is a wonderful log cabin Bowery (that I've never seen before) that fit all of us nicely. We played some games, ate more food, and ended the whole thing with a campfire. Around the campfire we played "You Know You're A Lowe If..." This included knowing trivia such as, You Know You're a Lowe If: you know why Grandma used to use her typewriter out the window; you can name the different types of cows; you know what Grandpa used to say when he played Rook; you can describe (or dance in Aaron's case) Grandpa's unique soft shoe style... and on and on.
It really was a lot of fun and I hope we'll be able to do it again in another three years.

Love It

I love online shopping. It's so fun, and easy, and stress free... and I can do it while Leah is napping. Within the next two weeks I will have some happy surprises on my porch. Nope not flaming bags of dog poop, hopefully. But 3 packages from half.com, 1 from childrensplace.com (monster sale, monster sale, monster sale - there are some great deals online right now), and 1 containing a much anticipated newly released Fancy Nancy book. I feel so accomplished.
Huh
I'm writing this and realizing that it's all for Leah. Whatevah!
